Green Drinks will be at the Hilton, 500East 4th St in Downtown Austin. This month will feature complimentary cocktails from 360 Vodka. Austin Green Drink Happy Hours are an informal event that happens periodically in various venues throughout Austin. They are open to those of us who work in the environmental field and/or who routinely find innovative ways to meet the challenges of a sustainable future. We get Architects, Activists, Permit Writers, Consultants, Industrialists, Artists, Biking Groups and lots of others that have an interest in the environmental field. Gatherings range from 10-50. This month's Green Drinks happy hour will be at White Hall Coop on July 28 from 5-7 p.m. Please bring your own drink.

Following our idea from last green drinks we will have some time to go around the room and give you an opportunity to discuss who you are, and what you do. This was very interesting last month, we found out about people building walls from post consumer paper, gold in dumpsters and car sharing programs. I learned about Austin's environmental advisory boards...lots of good people and good times.

Whitehall is the oldest existing housing cooperative in Texas, located near UT at 2500 Nueces St.

A few details...

* The green drinks will be BYOB with Whitehall providing teas and snacks.

* Whitehall coop's house was built in the 1890's, the second story was added in the 1930's, and the kitchen area was added in the 1980's. They are currently remodeling several rooms and are looking forward to discussing the idea of collaboration with anyone who attends.

* Whitehall has no central air, but remains relatively cool due to high ceilings, and good shading. They recommend that you not dress too warmly (ie., not office clothes for a building with cold central air). I wouldn't worry about it being too warm otherwise. Generally they feel comfortable just using the ceiling fans, and when they have large groups of people (and lots of body heat) they sometimes turn on a window unit or two.

* They have a couple of chemically sensitive house mates living at the coop and they try to keep Whitehall a fragrance free household. They kindly ask that you not wear cologne or perfume on that day

Directions:

If you know how to get to UT, you can find Whitehall. Whitehall Coop is a large two story house concealed by a shroud of trees at the North West corner of 25th and Nueces.

By car:
If coming from afar, MLK (19th) or Dean Keeton (26th) are good streets to exit from when taking I-35, while Enfield (15th) or Windsor (24th) are good streets if taking Mopac. In lieu of looking for street parking (which should be available), there are two UT parking lots located on the East side of Seton (1 block West of Nueces) in-between 24th and 25th (these parking spots are reserved during the day, but will mostly be available by green drinks time! Just be mindful of the UT parking sign you park near).

By bike:
There are many great streets to take by bike. If you are intimidated by the heat or the streets, feel free to email me with the origin of your journey and I will give you recommendations. We have a bike racks located on the South side of your house, if that fills we have other space as well.

By Bus:
Being near UT, there are multiple ways to get here by bus, several buses run up and down Guadalupe, just two blocks east of Whitehall. Furthermore the #3 runs right down Nueces and has a stop near our house. Capital metro has a great phone service to help you find the best bus route for you, just call 474-1200.

Earth Day Green Drinks

We are in the process of planning an Earth Day Green Drinks on April 21, 2006. Should be the biggest one yet!

This month you can go straight to Green Drinks or Tour Green City Hall then drink.

We will be having the February Green Drinks at the Lavaca Street Bar and Grill http://austin.clubplanet.com/clubsearch/clublisting.asp?clid=DBC50898CF582DFEBD6D7ADF4EAF9EB6. We have reserved the right side of the bar (as you walk in) for EGB and Green Drinks. It's a pretty good area for a small group, with plenty of room to grow. They will extend the happy hour for us until 8:00, it usually runs 4-7. Manga Pizza will be provided shortly after 5:00!

This month we will be having an extended Green Drinks in partnership with Emerging Green Builders who will be having a tour of City Hall that highlights it's new features. If you are interested in joining EGB for a tour you may join them at the new City Hall at 5:30 or sit with us at Lavaca and they will join us around 7:00.

December Holiday Art Green Drinks

The December Green Drinks will be held at Padggi House at 213 S Lamar Blvd Austin, on the corner of Lamar and Riverside.

There will a table out front (if it is cold there will be heaters and a tent), and participants are encouraged to tour the studio of Austin Eco Artist Bejat McCracken.

Sit down and have a cool drink in the last of the summer heat at Austin's own Threadgills.

What I like about Green Drinks is the conversations I have. Last month we were talking about how a lot of people didn't think of the environment even though environmental issues deeply affect them. Maybe you know a developer, landscaper, personal trainer, bike riding enthusiast or medical professional. The environment is very important to all these people. Let's make a pledge this month to bring someone who is "light green" even "grey" to the green drinks happy hour.

Wavespur Media has once again arranged a venue and some live music.
